This week’s blog is about a Launch Event we did in September for ¿Qué Pasa, Midwest? at Pangea. We had such a fun time working with WNIN’s Paola and Mareea to plan this event. Launch events are some of our favorite because it’s our client’s time to celebrate something new after putting in so much hard work to bring something to fruition.
First, about the podcast –
“¿Qué Pasa, Midwest? is a bilingual podcast that creates a sense of community for Midwestern Latinx who are missing an essential piece of their cultural identity. We do that by sharing their stories to create a sense of hope and alliance. We also foster education on divisive issues.”
The Launch began with a brief cocktail hour and hors d’oeuvre dishes. We worked with Pangea to put together a menu that reflected the heart of the podcast itself – embracing and celebrating Latino culture. Since this encompasses so many cultures, we had to limit our selection to Central American, Caribbean, and South American offerings.
Central American offerings
Slow roasted pork shank taco bar
Elote – wood fired roasted sweet corn off the cob
Tres Leches cake
Jerk Chicken lollipops
Plantain chips with guacamole and black bean dip
Rice pudding with passion fruit
South American offerings
Brazilian style rice with farofa and bacon
After guests were able to taste this delicious food (we were lucky enough to have some ourselves), we transitioned into the presentation portion of the evening. Paola Marizan and Mareea Thomas, Creators and Producers of ¿Qué Pasa, Midwest?, welcomed guests and introduced the order of the evening. Megan Alvarez, Attorney, followed with an enlightening introduction to the Evansville Latino Community. Steve Burger, with WNIN, described the journey and detailed the hard work and effort put into the podcast by Paola and Mareea before guests were able to listen to one of the upcoming podcast episodes.
Being able to celebrate with Paola, Mareea, the WNIN team, Pangea, and so many other dedicated servant leaders in the community was truly an inspiration for our team. Sara Schultz, Associate Coordinator for City Social, helped us make sure the evening ran smoothly and guests could fully enjoy the message Paola and Mareea brought to light.
If you don’t already, we highly recommend following ¿Qué Pasa, Midwest? on Instagram and Facebook. If you want to jump ahead to listen, click here: http://wnin.drupal.publicbroadcasting.net/topic/qu-pasa-midwest#stream/0
Thank you Paola and Mareea for allowing us to be a part of your event – it was such an inspiration in so many ways!
